PRIME Indicators activities are coordinated by the European Network of Indicator Producers (ENID). ENID is an open network with the task of promoting the reflection on the needs and design of new S&T indicators and realizes to this aim a number of networking and thinking activities; it aims also to function as a nurturing space for new experimental projects concerning S&T indicators, both in the framework of PRIME and of other initiatives related to indicators like ERAWATCH, DG Research contracts, etc.
The creation of ENID is the result of the experiences in the indicators field done in the first three years of PRIME both in the European Network of Indicators Producers project and in a series of experimental project related to indicators (ENIP-funding; AQUAMETH; Nanodistricts).
ENID is an open network of institutions in different European countries, which can freely adhere to it. For the years 2007-2008 ENID is coordinated by the Observatoire des Sciences et Techniques in Paris. ENID activities are financed à la carte either by the participating institutions directly, either through other funding sources; in particular PRIME funded a basic package of activities for the years 2007-2008, including the set-up of the network, communication instruments and the preparation of the next PRIME indicators conference. Members are encouraged to propose activities to be developed in ENID, provided they dispose of the needed funds; all activities must be accessible to the members of the network.
After the end of PRIME, it is foreseen to transform ENID in an association, which will keep its main activities and, in particular, the conference series.
